Mei-Chen Lin, Ph.D.
Chair, the Department of Business Administration

The Department of Business Administration at the NTPU is the oldest and largest among its peers in the nation. It traces its roots back to 1950 when the central government established Jianguo Senior Industrial and Business Training Workshop, which was the advent of industrial and business management education in Taiwan to train high-level industrial and business managerial professionals. In 1953, the Department of Education of Taiwan Provincial Government merged Jianguo Senior Industrial and Business Training Workshop into Taiwan Provincial Administrative College, which consequently established a department of industrial and business administration, making it the oldest school of higher learning for business administration in Taiwan.

In 1964, its night school in Taipei started accepting students in the department of business administration, which was divided into a business administration section and a market management section in 1971. The sections were abolished in 1992 and were replaced by A and B classes. Day students could take courses offered by the night school, and night students could take courses offered by the day school. Following the revision of the University Act in 1997, the night school at the university was transformed into the school of continuing education in Taipei.

The graduate school of business administration was established in 1984 with the sequential addition of the following programs: a doctoral program, a master’s program, continuing education program for people working for small and medium-sized enterprises (in conjunction with National Association of Small & Medium Enterprises, R.O.C.), continuing education program for managerial personnel in business (in conjunction with Junior Chamber International, Taiwan), and training workshops for managerial consultants (in conjunction with Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, the Ministry of Economic Affairs).

The graduate school of business administration started enrolling students in its MBA program in 1984, in continuing education master’s program in 1989, and in Ph.D. program in 1993. It is one of the oldest graduate schools of business administration in the nation.

To comply with the University Act as revised in 1997, the NTPU combined its departments and graduate schools, propelling this department into a new era. To train professional managers who are well versed in both theory and practice and who are innovative, this department established an EMBA program for working professionals to attract elites in government and businesses to offer them a practice-focused curriculum. It is one of the oldest EMBA programs in the nation. This department established an eMBA program in 2001 for mid- to entry-level managers and an MEMBA program in 2018 for active duty military personnel. It is the first continuing education business administration program in the nation for volunteer soldiers.

This university was reorganized to become the National Taipei University in February 2000. This department was originally part of College of Law and Business, National Chung Hsing University, and it is now part of the College of Business, National Taipei University. This department was moved its bachelor’s and MBA programs to Sanxia with the university while keeping its Ph.D. ,EMBA, MEMBA, eMBA, and bachelor’s continuing education.

The Department of Business Administration at the NTPU is the oldest and largest among its peers in the nation. It has the most complete academic system, and it is dedicated to training managerial talent who are innovative, who excel in leading, and who have international perspectives. The department offers a Ph.D. program, master’s programs (including continuing education), EMBA, eMBA, MEMBA, bachelor’s, and bachelor’s continuing education, with a total enrollment of about 1,300. This department has a faculty of more than 30 full-time teachers, all of whom have doctoral degrees from well-known universities with various expertise such as in strategic management, organizational behavior and human resource management, finance and banking, marketing management, information management, and operations research. Purpose of Establishment

The department has continued the fine traditions and academic spirit of the College of Law and Business of National Chung Hsing University for 50 years. It is committed to cultivating outstanding talent with international perspectives and broad perspectives, and has developed a variety of courses for students to take in order to adapt to the world’s trends and improve their international competitiveness. The operation of the dual campus locations of our department also brings new challenges and opportunities. The development of the Sanxia campus is mainly focused on the improvement of research and teaching; the Taipei campus keeps up the fine tradition of cultivating Taiwanese management talent. Besides, the Taipei campus is located in the center of Taipei City, so the EMBA and in-service group of the MBA programs have become one of the most popular master’s programs in Taiwan. Most of the teachers have Ph.D. and rich practical experience.

The purpose of this department is to "cultivate the enterprise management talents required by the industry", and to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of industrial management by cultivating the management talent required for the knowledge economy industry, in order to boost Taiwan’s industrial development and enhance its international competitiveness.

Evaluated on 21 indicators, such as teaching, research, personnel performance and administration, the College of Business was officially accredited by AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, AACSB) on February 12, 2016.

Founded in 1916, AACSB’s international accreditation is the oldest and most credible professional education evaluation institution in the world. There are more than 15,000 business and management related colleges around the world, and only about 5% of the business management colleges have won AACSB certification. The AACSB certification means that the College of Business has been recognized by the international appraisal for the quality of its business education, and it is on par with leading business schools anywhere in the world.

AACSB certification is an affirmation of the quality of teaching. It is also a bridge for international cooperation with the world's leading business schools.
